Delicious baked donuts, flavoured with apples is the perfect fall treat! These donuts are easy to make, can be made in one bowl and are so yummy, you'll be asking yourself why you don't make them more often! Our favourite way to finish ours is to dip them in a cinnamon sugar coating but these would be equally delicious with a glaze or drizzled with caramel sauce!

Makes 12 donuts

Ingredients

1 egg

2 tablespoons butter, melted

1/2 cup sugar

1/4 cup milk

1/2 cup apple sauce

3/4 cup apple, finely chopped

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/8 teaspoon ground clove

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

2 cups flour

For the cinnamon sugar coating:

1/3 cup melted butter

1 1/2 cup sugar

2 tablespoons cinnamon

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 375F and lightly grease your donut pans.

2. In a large bowl, whisk together the egg, butter, sugar, milk, apple sauce and apple. Sprinkle in the salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, ground clove. Add the baking powder and baking soda and slowly stir in the flour until everything is combined and you have a thick batter.

3. Place batter in a piping bag and pipe into the donut pan, filling each cavity 3/4 of the way full. Bake for 12 minutes or until the toothpick inserted into the middle of a donut comes out clean. Transfer to a cooling rack.

For the cinnamon sugar glaze:

Melt butter and place it in a bowl. Mix the cinnamon and sugar in a seperate bowl. Dip each donut quickly into the butter (or you can brush the butter on each donut) and then into the cinnamon sugar.

**For a healthier option, you could skip the butter and brush each donut with apple sauce and then dip into the cinnamon sugar.
